The Sharpening of a Friend

By November 23, 2012No Comments

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17 KJV

When iron is properly rubbed against another piece of iron it sharpens it. In the very same way people help people be sharper than they would be on their on. When left to ourselves we tend to become dull because we are not being challenged to stay sharp. Left to ourselves we tend toward lazy thinking and actions. It is not just our interaction with people in general that makes us better but especially the interactions of a friend. This emphasizes the need for wisdom in our choice of friends. Some friends do us more harm than good. A good friend will sharpen us, stimulate us, by their discussions, criticisms, suggestions, and ideas, so that our countenance (appearance and deportment) improve.

Lord, thank You for the good friends You have given me through my life that have made me better because of their interaction. Help me be the same kind of good friend to others.
