The Shelter in Times of Trouble

By April 22, 2011No Comments

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto
thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy
tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Psalm 61:1-4 KJV

Do you ever feel too far from God or too overwhelmed by trouble for God to hear you? I have experienced such periods in my life. It is believed that David wrote these words as he fled for his life from his own son, Absalom. It was the most discouraging time of his life. In those dark and overwhelming moments David prayed, he cried to the Lord. Why did he and why should we? The Lord is a rock higher than we. So, in the overwhelming floods of life He will protect us from the storm. He is a shelter, a place to take cover. He is a strong tower lifting us up, out of the reach of our enemy. Because this was all true, despite his trouble, David would rest in the presence of God, under the protection of His wings.
