The King in His Beauty

By September 1, 2011No Comments

Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off. Isaiah 33:17 KJV

The time in which this promise was made was difficult. Hezekiah was king of Judah in Jerusalem and surrounded by the enemy of God’s people, the Assyrian army. It looked like their future was hopeless. Both Hezekiah and Isaiah encouraged the people to look beyond their enemy and beyond their circumstances to the Lord. The verses just previous to this one describe what it means to live righteously and then this promise is made. God’s people do not live for today or for their circumstances; they live for a future day, and future home: the day when they behold the King of kings in all of His beauty, a reference to His glorious perfections, and they behold a land without borders, their future home.

Lord, I understand this specifically as a promise to the faithful people of Israel, but I also accept it as a personal promise, for I too shall see the King in all His beauty and dwell in the land without borders. This is always a comfort to me when facing difficulty because I know no matter how bad today looks I have a bright and glorious future awaiting me.
