The Desire of Our Heart

By August 27, 2012No Comments

In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, ask what I shall give thee. 2 Chronicles 1:7 KJV

At the start of his reign as king of Israel, Solomon got apart from everyone and everything to speak with the Lord. The Lord gave him the opportunity to ask for anything he wanted. If you could have the desire of your heart, what would it be? In our day many would quickly respond: riches, wealth, or honor. Solomon asked for wisdom and understanding that he might lead the people of Israel well. This was an answer that pleased the Lord; as a result, God not only gave Solomon wisdom and understanding, but also riches, wealth, and honor. Perhaps not in the same way, but in a real sense, God asks each of us what the desire of our heart is; our answer, seen in life choices, determines what we end up with.

Lord, it seems that most of us spend our lives thinking about what we want. Too often we think too small and selfishly. Help me desire what is most pleasing to You for I know that will also be the very best thing for me.
