Praying for More

Read Exodus 33 – 35

And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. Exodus 33:12 KJV

Exodus 33:12-23 contains a great prayer. Our prayers typically ask for something, Moses asked for more of God. He made three requests. (1) First, he wanted to know the Lord’s intentions (Verses 12-14). He prayed for God’s direction. God had told Moses to lead, but without God’s leading he was concerned. (2) Next, Moses prayed for confirmation the Lord would go with them (Verses 15-17). He said if God wasn’t going, then they would not move. Absence of God’s presence would put their lives in jeopardy. If God is not with us, we should not move either. (3) Third, Moses asked to see God’s glory (Verse 18-23). With all the intimacy he already experienced, Moses still wanted to know God better. This was fulfilled as God allowed him to hear His attributes and see the aftereffects of His glory. With all the experiences you and I have had with God, do we still desire more?

Lord, I do want more of you. I want your direction in my life; I want your presence in my life; and I want to personally know you better. I have learned that without you, my life is nothing. Lord, show me more of you!

A question to ponder through the day: What changes need to occur in my life if I am to experience more of God in it?
