God’s Thoughts for Me

By September 20, 2011No Comments

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11 KJV

The people of Israel were in Babylon, in exile from the land, because of their rebellion against God. Still, teachers were giving them false messages and false hope. They were expecting to be delivered immediately. God sent them a letter through the prophet Jeremiah telling them to accept their circumstances and settle down because they would be there for seventy years (verse 10). When our circumstances are not what we want, we tend to think God does not hear us, does not care for us, and has simply forsaken us. Certainly, it was easy for Israel to feel that way. But God assured them His thoughts were not for their harm; His thoughts were for their good, in order to give real peace and hope.

Lord, when I am in trouble, even that of my own making, I tend to think You should rescue me immediately. My thoughts hinder me from accepting and learning what You have for me. When circumstances are against me, help me seek out Your thoughts that I might experience the good, the peace, and the hope You have for me.
