Read Esther 5 – 7

And the king said, ‘What honor and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this?’ Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him. Esther 6:3 KJV

While wicked Haman was sleeping, confident he would soon have Mordecai put to death, God kept King Ahasuerus awake. To help overcome his insomnia he had the chronicles of his reign read. It was thought that listening to such legal documents would put him to sleep. But, by coincidence, they read about Mordecai’s unrewarded good deed. Or maybe it really wasn’t a coincidence at all! Apparently God was at work and directed the king’s attention to the account of how Mordecai had saved his life but had not been rewarded. The next morning, events unfolded very differently than Haman could have dreamed. As God worked in the circumstances of the king to bring about His plan to save Mordecai and protect the Jewish people, He works in our lives as well. He brings circumstances together to accomplish His will. We do not always see it, but God is always in control.

Lord, how thankful I am that You are in control of my life and the circumstances that affect it. I do not always need to see how You are working, but I do want to live in the confidence that You are working according to Your will and for my good in all things.
