Help is needed now! A tornado blew through southern Wisconsin early on June 17. Two towns, Verona and Madison, were severely damaged. Memorial Baptist Church in Verona is helping in the aftermath and showing love to its community. By 2 a.m. on the 18th, the church had set up an emergency shelter for displaced residents. The church also assisted in getting community members into hotels and by serving meals.

Pastor Jeremy Scott has experience serving during disasters, having ministered in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. He says Memorial Baptist will continue to assess needs, serve “mobile meals,” and help residents in cleanup—all the time keeping in touch with the local police and the Salvation Army to ensure the church understands the community’s needs and the most effective way to minister. Pastor Scott will stay in close touch with Baptist Builders Club as well, as BBC–USA coordinates relief efforts through its new disaster relief ministry.

The people of Memorial Baptist are doing what they can, but they need your help! Pastor Scott asked Michael Nolan if Baptist Builders Club could coordinate efforts on the church’s behalf:

  1. Asking the members of every GARBC church to pray for them.
  2. Encouraging those who want to give financially to give through BBC–USA, letting the GARBC process donations and send money so the church can purchase what it needs to best minister to the Verona community.
  3. Promoting help with the purchase of Why? tracts so the people of Memorial Baptist can share them with those in their community who don’t understand why God would allow such destruction.
  4. Rallying Regular Baptists who are READY TO GO! if the church decides it needs additional help with physical labor.
