And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water. Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it: The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. Numbers 21:16-18 KJV
We are accustomed to the complaining of the people of Israel as they traveled through the wilderness. Here is an occasion when the opposite was true of them. They were without water, thirsty, and they were in a dry place, but they did not complain. Instead, they waited on God for His provision. God promised to quench their thirst, and in response, they gathered together, and spontaneously began to sing, Spring Up O Well. It was a response of faith. Working together at the direction of God became an occasion of joy and refreshment for them. We too give into complaining about our circumstances, but how much more refreshing and exciting it is to respond as God’s people to Him in faith.
Lord, it is so much better to respond to You in faith, working together with Your people. Open my eyes to see opportunities to do so even today. Help me to sing as I work side by side in fellowship and service with others. Provide the refreshment of obedience to You.
