Read Psalm 8 – 14
The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Psalm 14:2-3 KJV
The Apostle Paul quotes these verses in Romans 3:11-12 as evidence of mankind’s sinful condition. God says all have sinned. Sin is to transgress the laws of God, or to fall short of His standard of righteousness. All have turned aside from God and His ways to their own ways. There is not even one who does good or seeks after God. This statement does not fit the seeker friendly philosophy of many churches today. If not even one seeks after God, then why water down the teachings of God’s Word to make them more palatable to those seeking after God? It does not work. This statement, based upon what God sees from His heavenly perspective, would indicate a better course of action. To reach people, we must seek after them, help them understand they have turned aside from God to sin, help them understand their ways are filthy in the sight of God, and that they do need Him.
Lord, how grateful I am that You have not left us to ourselves but despite our sinfulness have acted in our behalf. You are our refuge and salvation. Although we have not sought after You, You seek us out, open the eyes of our understanding, and save us. Thank You for such goodness!
