The Sin of Satan

By December 2, 2012No Comments

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Isaiah 14:12-14 KJV

Here we have Satan’s original name: Lucifer, Son of the Morning. This name places him among the angels in his original creation and pictures him as a star providing light in the early morning. The Apostle Paul warns us in 2 Corinthians 11:14 not to be surprised that Satan is able to appear as an angel of light. That’s where he got his start and uses it to his advantage when trying to deceive people. The five “I will” statements express the iniquity found in his heart. It was none other than pride. These are not five different aspirations they all express the same desire: not to be in God’s presence, but to be in God’s place. The sin of pride brought Satan down (v. 15) and it does the same to us (Proverbs 29:23).

Lord, whenever I see myself apart from You then I am perpetuating the sin of Satan in my life. Help me to always understand that apart from You I am nothing and can do nothing. Pride may seem to lift me up for awhile but will bring me down just as it did Satan.
