Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said unto the king… Nehemiah 2:4-5a KJV
A great moment of opportunity had arrived for both Nehemiah and the people of Israel back in Jerusalem. The king of Persia was interested in helping. This didn’t just happen, Nehemiah had prayed, wept, and fasted for months (1:4). Many opportunities for blessing never come because we have not prepared ourselves for them. Nehemiah was ready because he prepared for it. When the moment came, before opening his mouth to the king of Persia he opened his mouth to the King of kings. His prayer was short and silent, but significant. The king of Persia granted his request, but only because the King of kings did first (2:8). Faithful prayers prepare us for the moment, and short prayers help us seize it!
Lord, help me remain faithful in prayer that Your moments of opportunity might be seen by me. Also help me remember that the best way to seize every opportunity is through prayer, regardless of how brief it might be.
