The Prosperity of the Wicked

By April 27, 2011No Comments

But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. For I was
envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. Psalm 73:2-3 KJV

Have you ever felt like that? You believe God is good, truly good to His people, but then you look at the prosperity of the wicked and your faith falters. You envy what they have and wonder, as a child of God, why it isn’t the other way around. We think the wicked should suffer and the righteous prosper but so often that is not the case. If you have never thought like this then good for you but many believers have. In the rest of this Psalm however, the writer changes his tone as he begins to worship and sees life from the perspective of eternity. What good are riches now if they will soon be exchanged for eternal suffering, and how can the present sufferings of believers be compared with glory?

Lord, I do not always understand what I experience and witness around me. Sometimes I get distracted by it. How good it is to turn my eyes back to You. Upon doing so I realize no amount of earthly riches can compare with the privilege of Your involvement with me.
