The Passover

Read Exodus 12:1-30

For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. Exodus 12:23 KJV

The night of the Passover was a night of judgment and death for the Egyptians, but a night of redemption (to buy back) and liberty for the people of Israel. When the LORD saw the blood of the lamb applied to the doorposts of a home He passed over that home. The blood brought liberty to those inside the home. Their redemption was secured only as they acted in faith according to the Word of God. Death was still demanded, but the lamb had taken their place. According to 1 Corinthians 5:7, Jesus Christ is our Passover. As the Lamb of God, His blood was shed for us, as a substitute to buy us out of the bondage of sin. When, by faith, we trust in Jesus as Savior, His blood is applied to our lives. God’s judgment then passes over us, and we experience redemption and liberty instead of death. If you have not done so enter the door of freedom by believing on Jesus as your Passover.

Lord, thank you for being my Passover. Your death paid for my redemption. Help me live as one set free from the bondage of sin by your blood.

A question to ponder as you sleep: At the first Passover family and friends were encouraged to enter the door with them, is there someone you should invite to enter the door of freedom with you?
