And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brethren. Genesis 24:27 KJV
I find in this verse a significant illustration of how believers experience the leading of the Lord in their lives. Abraham had sent his servant to the land of his kindred in search of a wife for his son Isaac. That would have been an extremely important responsibility. It is important to note he did not lean on his on understanding, instead he sought the wisdom and direction of God (24:12), then with confidence in God he went forth. Being in the way meant he was acting responsibly, doing what he was asked to do while relying on the Lord. As a result, the Lord led him and he received a quick response to his request. Having enjoyed the direction and blessing of God the first thing he did was thank God.
Lord, too often we go first, and then in frustration ask You for direction. Here is the proper order: acknowledge You, seek Your wisdom, and allow You to direct our path. By putting ourselves in the way of Your blessing first we enjoy it much sooner
