The House of God

Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat, And the pattern of all that he had by the Spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things. 1 Chronicles 28:11-12 KJV

Although David was not allowed to build a house for the Lord, the final years of his life were used preparing for its construction. He prepared the building supplies, the workers, the musicians, and even the priests. All these preparations, which he handed over to Solomon, were according to the Spirit of God. God takes the worship of His people seriously. These details we recounted for the remnant of Israel when they returned to Jerusalem as an encouragement to rebuild the Temple as a place to meet with God. In our day they are also an encouragement to us that we too should take our worship of God seriously. It should always be with the right attitude and in the pattern prescribed by Him.

Lord, I get the impression that many believe it is okay to worship You in a manner that most pleases them. May that never be true of me. I desire to worship You in the way that most pleases You. Help me give attention to the pattern set forth in Your Word.
