The Great Commission

Read Matthew 27 – 28

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:19-20 KJV

As believers in Jesus Christ, we are commissioned by Him to go to the nations. This starts right where we are. We all go someplace every day. We go to work. We go to school. We go to play. We are a people on the go. All of human history illustrates this! But just going does not fulfill the purpose of His commission. Instead, we go with His plan always in mind. As we go there are people the Lord wants us to talk to, to reach out to, and to minister to in His name. That is His plan for changing the world and He wants to do it through us! The goal is to introduce people to Jesus so they believe on Him for salvation, then baptize them in identification with Christ, and teach to observe all He has commanded. This might seem too much for us. Going, sharing, baptizing, and teaching are a lot! But the Lord has sent us in His power and promises to be with us to the end.

Lord, what a great privilege to be chosen by You to make a difference in our world. You send us out in Your power, with Your plan and presence to reach and teach people. There can be no greater purpose to our going. Help us not neglect this privilege.

A question to ponder: As I go today, what opportunities can I use to introduce the name of Jesus to others?
