The Fountain of Living Waters

By December 15, 2012No Comments

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13 KJV

Imagine a choice between a source of water that is always abundant, fresh and free, or digging your own well with hopes of catching rain water, but the well being so porous that even if it does catch a little rain it cannot hold it. Which would you choose? God says that the heavens should be astonished at the choice made by Israel. They had the Lord in their midst, the fountain of living water, but had rejected Him for idols, false gods of their own making, which ultimately were empty and could not provide life. We find ourselves in the same astonishing position. Jesus Christ, a well of living water springing up to eternal life (John 4:14) is available, yet many still turn to empty holes. We still astonish the heavens.

Lord, as the spring of living water I have never been disappointed in You. Because the water of life You provide is fresh, abundant and free I cannot imagine turning to any other source, especially one of my own making. Thank You for being my source of eternal life.
