Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full. Psalm 78:23-25 KJV
Psalm 78 is a fairly long Psalm as Asaph recounts the history of Israel for the generations which would follow. He wanted them to see how good God had been to them despite their unfaithfulness. Verses 23-25 provide just one example. I could not overlook it. They had no stores in the desert, so how was a nation to be fed? God opened the doors of heaven and it rained manna upon them. Manna was their daily provision, which they ate like bread. I like the other two descriptions made of it: the corn of heaven and the food of angels. The word manna means what is it? Here is the answer: it is the food of angels. God gave the food of angels to the Israelites and just like us they were still not satisfied.
Lord, how ungrateful we, as Your people, continue to be with the daily provisions we enjoy from heaven. We have something better than manna. In John 6, Jesus said He was the bread from heaven. You have not just given us the food of angels You have given us Your Son. Why are we still unsatisfied? Help me know that Jesus is all I need.
