The Direction of God

Read Proverbs 1 – 3

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

I would not be surprised if these were the most commonly quoted words of the book of Proverbs. I use them and I hear others using them often. They conclude with a desirable promise, God’s direction. Our lives can be confusing with all the choices we have to make. Think about all the decisions we make in just one day! God’s direction provides comfort and confidence. To enjoy it we are instructed to make three actions central to our relationship with Him. First, we are to trust Him or commit ourselves to Him with all our heart. Much of the confusion people experience is due to a divided heart. Second, we are to lean or depend on Him rather than self. Dependence is often much harder for us than self-reliance. Third, we are to acknowledge Him in everything thing we do. As we trust, lean on, and acknowledge Him, rather than ourselves and others, we enjoy His direction.

Lord, I realize this to be a lifetime commitment with a lifetime promise. I cannot do things my own way but then want Your direction in something and expect by briefly trusting, depending on, and acknowledging You I will have it. From my heart I want this to be my lifetime commitment.

A question to ponder: What are some of the ways I demonstrate my trust, dependence, and acknowledgement of God through my day?
