One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4 KJV
I do not doubt that the majority of us would agree that the Lord God must be beautiful in every way imaginable. But what does it mean that the Lord is beautiful? Certainly, it is different than we often use the word. God is beautiful in that He is perfect in every way; there is nothing that He lacks. We look upon His beauty as we spend time in His Word getting to know Him better. We look upon the beauty of the Lord when we think upon His mercy, His grace, His patience, His goodness, His justice, and on and on. We look upon His beauty when we see His handiwork in all of creation, in other people, and even in ourselves. Be sure that you take time this week to behold the beauty of the Lord.
Lord, I confess too many conflicting desires in my life. I am in need of the singular focus expressed by David: to be with You, behold Your beauty, and talk with You. Being imperfect and living in an imperfect world, I need the perspective of time in Your presence.
