Read Exodus 28:36-38
And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD. Exodus 28:36 KJV
Exodus 28 describes the garments that were worn by the high priest in his service before God in behalf of the people of Israel. In verses 36-38 we learn the head covering was to bear a plate inscribed with the words Holiness to the Lord. This plate, which was to always be upon his head, was for the iniquity of the holy things; the imperfections of the things set apart to God. This refers to a truth we often do not give any thought to: even our most sacred acts are stained with sin. When I pray I sin, when I worship I sin, and when I serve the Lord I sin. In others words, when I am at my very best, seeking to give God my best, I come short of His glory and holiness, I still sin. How important it is for me to remember that everything about me must come under the blood of my Redeemer.
Lord, I am humbled by my sinfulness. I know it to be true but I still struggle with the idea that everything about me is sinful, even the things I do in worship. I am thankful that despite my sinfulness, you make me holy through the sacrifice of my Lord, Jesus Christ.
A question to ponder as you sleep: Aaron wore a plate as a reminder of the imperfections of his holy services, what can we do to help us remain humble as we serve the Lord?
