Pride in Knowing the Lord

By December 17, 2012No Comments

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 9:23-24 KJV

What do you take pride in: your education, your strength, your wealth? People do glory in such things. We make them the aim of life and then we boast about how much we attain. These can be good things but are at best gifts and not the source of blessing in our lives. We can have great wisdom, strength, and all that money can buy, but still be miserable, empty, and without eternal comfort. If we are going to take pride in something, Isaiah, the messenger of the Lord, tells us, glory in understanding and knowing the Lord. This is not knowing about the Lord but knowing Him: His loving-kindness, His judgment, His righteousness. Personally knowing the Lord, and what delights Him, is worthy of glory.

Lord, I do delight in knowing You. Every good and perfect gift comes down from You (James 1:17), how foolish then it would be to glory in the gift and not the giver. You are the eternal source of comfort, which no amount of money can buy. Thank You for helping me to understand Your loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness.
