Our Testimony in the World

By February 27, 2012No Comments

And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake. Genesis 20:11 KJV

This is the second time Abraham was caught by an ungodly man in a lie about his wife. It indicates a shameful pattern in his life that would later show up in his son as well. Parents, if we fail to deal with sinful habits in our own lives they will likely become the sinful habits of our children. The right time to break the habit is not in their life but in our own. Think of the testimony this also left with Abimelech, the host of Abraham. Though an ungodly man, he found himself rebuking the ungodliness of Abraham. It should have been the other way around. When we are in the world our faith needs to shine. It takes no faith to trust God in favorable circumstances; true faith is best seen in unfavorable times.

Lord, although a negative example from the life of Abraham, it is a much needed one today. Help me be a consistent example of faith to the lost both when times are favorable and unfavorable.
