Do you ever feel too far from God or too overwhelmed by trouble for God to hear you? I have experienced such periods in my life. It is believed that David wrote these words as he fled for his life from his own son, Absalom. It was the most discouraging time of his life. In those dark and overwhelming moments David prayed, he cried to the Lord. Why did he and why should we? The Lord is a rock higher than we. So, in the overwhelming floods of life He will protect us from the storm. He is a shelter, a place to take cover. He is a strong tower lifting us up, out of the reach of our enemy. Because this was all true, despite his trouble, David would rest in the presence of God, under the protection of His wings.
Lord, what a comfort these words of David are, for I also have found them to be true. Thank You for being a rock, a shelter, a high tower, and a place of protection in my times of trouble. I am glad that I can never be too far away or too deep in trouble to be heard and helped by You.
