Numbering My Days

By October 9, 2012No Comments

LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. Psalm 39:4 KJV

How this could change our lives if we would let it! Most seem to go through life ignoring one of the most important days of their earthly life: the last one. We live as if life has no end, and feel cheated when forced to come to grips with it either through a serious personal illness or the sudden death of a loved one. But our lives are only a vapor (James 4:14), and before we know it our days are gone. There is great wisdom in this brief prayer of David. If my end is death, my days, no matter how long, short, and frail to the point of no guarantee about tomorrow, then I should use whatever time I have well. If my days are short then I want to make the best of them. I want them to have eternal value.

Lord, help me not waste the days I have. I want to use them according to Your will to accomplish the good You have in mind, for then I know my days, though brief, will count for eternity.
