Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 KJV
After his search of man’s wisdom Solomon concluded that life apart from God is empty, but with God, full of purpose and hope. To enjoy life then, God must be part of it. Solomon concludes with three instructions: (1) we begin with an attitude of fear. Fear is often associated with terror, but here it is used in the sense of respect. We recognize who God is, receive Him into our life, and respect Him in all our ways. (2) We keep His commandments; they are his guidelines for living. They do not keep us from enjoying life but help us get the most out of life. (3) Understand that God holds us accountable for our attitudes and actions. When we understand this it purifies us and makes our life better.
Lord, I know what life is like without You and with You. Without You it is empty. With You it is full. Thank You for Your involvement in my life. May I always fear You, keep Your Word, and live in light of my accountability to You.
