God id Always at Work

Read Genesis 29 – 31

And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me. Genesis 31:7 KJV

Jacob reviews his life with his two wives, Leah and Rachel. In doing so, he reveals a simple but significant truth he learned about God. For twenty years he served their father, Laban, for his wives and livestock. Through those years, Jacob’s life, his family, and his relationship with his father-in-law were a mess. Deceit and jealousy seem to best describe their family dynamics. Reading the story you are left wondering where God is and if Jacob will ever learn a thing. We often see the events of our lives as fragmented and disconnected. We fail to see the links between the past and the present. But God fits them together. God is always working in the background to accomplish His plan in our lives. It took twenty years but Jacob finally got it. Through all his difficulties, primarily self-imposed, he learned God was working in all the circumstances of his life for his good.

Lord, what a comfort it is to know you are for me and not against me. I am grateful that even when I fail to realize it you are at work in my life. You take the events, good and bad, and use them to accomplish your plan for my life. How grateful I am that ultimately you are the one in control.

A question to ponder: Too often we remember the problems, but taking a brief survey of our life, how has God been at work in the good and the bad?
