A Zeal for God’s House

By October 14, 2012No Comments

For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me. Psalm 69:9 KJV

What consumes you, or is touched by your passionate zeal? As a man, David was zealous for the house of God, although it only existed in his mind during his lifetime. He had asked to build God a house, but God refused. David however made plans for it the rest of his life. Psalm 69 looks beyond David; it is a Messianic Psalm, dealing with various aspects of the life of Christ. Twice, when Jesus began and ended His earthly ministry He cleaned out the Temple. The abuse of the money changers insulted God and His House, and Jesus took that insult on Himself. When people abuse places of worship set aside for prayer and ministry does it bother you? Does it bother you enough to make a difference?

Lord, I understand that You do not dwell in buildings made with hands but dwell among and in us. How I use the Temple of my body reflects on my attitude toward You. I also realize that buildings set aside to Your glory should be treated with the same respect You deserve from us. Help me to reflect my deep respect for You in both the way I use my body, and the building Your people meets in for prayer and ministry.
