A Time to Stop Praying

Read Exodus 14:10-16

And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward. Exodus 14:15

The children of Israel had the Red Sea before them, and the armies of Egypt rapidly approaching behind them. Being paralyzed with fear, they cried out to Moses. Moses in turn, cried out to God in prayer. It seemed like the perfect time for prayer. Their case appeared hopeless and they needed God’s help. Most often, that’s especially when we decide to pray. The response of God is interesting. It indicates there is a time for prayer and there is a time for stepping out in faith. Most of us are not guilty of praying too much, but I suspect there are times when we do pray and it is not appropriate. There are times when, instead of prayer, God is waiting for us to take a step of faith. Moses had to stop praying and instead take God at His Word and move forward before the waters of the Red Sea would open. Is there a step of faith God is waiting for you and me to take?

Lord, help me to pray when I should, for it is only by prayer and your Word that I can know what I need to do. But once I know what your will is, help be to stop praying about it to move forward in faith.

A question to ponder as you sleep: Has there been a time when you should have simply taken God at His Word, but instead continued to pray about the matter and nothing happened until you stopped praying and started doing what God wanted all along?
