And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. Job 28:28 KJV
Beginning with verse 20, Job asks where wisdom comes from. Man is always in search of wisdom. He searches high and low and never seems to find it. But Job has the answer most needed in every age. God is the source of wisdom. He alone understands what we are incapable of understanding. But how do we gain such wisdom? Job says that the fear of the Lord is wisdom. To fear the Lord is to reverence Him, to respect Him, and to trust Him. Many people say they know God, but it is obvious they do not fear Him both by the way they talk and live. It is interesting that God testified to Satan that Job was a man that feared the Lord. I wonder, would God be able to give the same testimony of you and me?
Lord, as Creator You know all there is to know, and yet thinking ourselves to be wise we often do not look to You for the wisdom we need to answer the basic questions of life. Help me to always give due reverence for You in all that I do. I want You to be able to say of me that I fear the Lord.
