Howbeit thou art just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly. Nehemiah 9:33 KJV
This is part of one of the great prayers of the Bible. It is a prayer of confession made by the Levites in behalf of the people of Israel. The prayer covers each book of the Bible from Genesis to 2 Chronicles recalling all the goodness of God to them as a people. But with all the good God had done they still turned from Him, even after their restoration to Jerusalem. The Levites acknowledge that God’s punishment was just and their actions wicked. Too often we refuse to take responsibility for our sins, and we certainly do not think we deserve whatever punishment results, but to acknowledge both God’s goodness and our sinfulness frees us from the bondage of past sins to serve God again.
Lord, as I look back in my life it is filled with the good things You have done for me. I am ashamed that with all Your goodness I still turn from You in sin. Forgive me. Continue to be merciful with me and help me grow stronger in my walk with You.
